What Car Hire Companies are Available at the Rosen Centre, International Drive Orlando?

Alamo, Enterprise and National car hire operate from the Rosen Centre's first-floor desk. All three are well-known brands that UK visitors will recognise. All offer a wide range of vehicles, from compact economy cars and family saloons through to SUVs, minivans, and people carriers.

Alamo - One of the Most Popular Orlando Car Hire Brands for UK Visitors

Alamo is the most popular car hire brand among UK visitors to Florida. It offers low rates and a smooth pick-up process. Alamo's Rosen Centre location page also confirms its Accelerated Check-In service. This lets you fill in your paperwork online before you travel, saving time at the desk. You can also use Alamo's self-service kiosks at some locations to skip the counter queue. Check kiosk availability at the Rosen Centre before you arrive.

National Car Hire - Ideal for Frequent Orlando Visitors

National shares the same first-floor desk as Alamo. It is well regarded for its Emerald Club loyalty scheme, which lets members choose their own car from the fleet. Rates and vehicle types are broadly similar to Alamo. The pick-up process follows the same efficient format.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car - Widest Vehicle Choice on International Drive

Enterprise is the world's largest car rental firm and offers the widest choice of vehicles at the Rosen Centre. On its UK site, Enterprise lists this location as "Orlando Convention Centre Rosen Hotel." Do not worry if you see that name on your booking; it is the same first-floor desk inside the Rosen Centre. Enterprise is a strong choice for families and larger groups, as its SUV and minivan range tends to be very well stocked.

Worth knowing: Alamo, National, and Enterprise all belong to the same parent company, Enterprise Holdings. Vehicles are sometimes drawn from a shared fleet. However, each brand runs its own pricing, loyalty schemes, and rental terms, so it is always worth comparing all three before you book.

What Documents Do UK Drivers Need to Hire a Car Hire in Orlando?

uk-driver-orlando-car-hire-debit-credit-checklist

This is the most important section of this guide. Turning up at the car hire counter on International Drive without the right documents can mean refusal, even with a paid booking. Here is exactly what to bring.

1. Your UK Driving Licence - Physical Photocard Only

You must show your physical UK photocard driving licence. A photo on your phone, a scan, or a copy is not accepted at any rental desk in Florida. The card must be valid, in good shape, and easy to read.

As GOV.UK confirms, the UK photocard is issued by the DVLA and must be renewed every ten years. If the photo is faded, the laminate is peeling, or the text is unclear, renew it before you fly. Desk staff check it visually. A worn card causes delays on what should be a simple collection.

If you still hold the older pink paper-only UK licence, you can use it in Florida. However, as it has no photo, you must carry your passport with you at all times. Paper licences are less common in the US, so upgrading to the photocard before you travel is strongly advised.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) confirms that visitors must carry a valid licence from their home country. Your UK photocard meets Florida's legal driving rules throughout your stay.

Do you need an International Driving Permit (IDP)?

No. A valid UK licence is all you need to hire and drive a car in Florida. Most UK visitors are never asked for one. However, carrying an IDP alongside your photocard is a cheap and simple safety net. It is worth having if you plan to drive outside Florida, or if your licence is the older paper type.

According to GOV.UK's guidance on International Driving Permits, an IDP costs £5.50. Since April 2024, you can no longer get one from the Post Office. You now buy an IDP in person from shops that display the PayPoint logo. You can apply up to three months before travel. Always carry it with your UK driving licence, not instead of it.

2. Your Passport

Your passport confirms who you are and must match the name on your booking. Check that all name spellings match across your documents before you travel. A changed surname or a middle name that differs between your licence and passport can slow things down at the desk.

3. A Credit Card in the Lead Driver's Name

Every rental firm at the Rosen Centre needs a credit card in the lead driver's name to cover the deposit. At pick-up, the supplier places a hold on the card. This cuts your available credit for a short time but is not a charge. Once you return the car in good order, the hold is lifted, usually within a few working days.

Key points on payment:

  • Credit cards are the best option. A standard Visa or Mastercard credit card works well. The card must be in the lead driver's name.

  • Debit cards may be accepted in some cases, but often come with extra checks, such as a larger deposit hold, extra ID, or proof of your return flight. Do not rely on a debit card unless you have confirmed this with your supplier first.

  • Prepaid and virtual cards are commonly refused for deposit purposes.

  • Make sure your card has enough credit to cover both the deposit hold and your day-to-day holiday spending at the same time.

  • Tell your bank before you fly that a large pre-authorisation in the USA is coming. Some banks block overseas transactions as a fraud precaution.

4. Your Booking Confirmation

Bring a printed or digital copy of your booking confirmation. It holds your reservation number, vehicle type, and details of what is covered. Having it ready at the desk speeds up the hand-over.

5. Proof of Address (Optional but Recommended)

Some rental desks may ask for a UK address document, especially if your licence shows an old address. A recent bank statement, utility bill, or council tax is usually accepted. A printed copy is safer than a digital version at the counter.

Practical Tips for Collecting Your Orlando Car Hire on International Drive

Book early to get the best rate. Car hire prices on International Drive tend to rise as your travel date gets closer. Our search tool watches your booking and rebooks at a lower rate if the price falls, so lock in your vehicle as soon as your holiday is set.

Plan ahead for Florida's toll roads. You will almost certainly use toll roads during your stay. These include the Florida Turnpike, the 417 (Central Florida GreeneWay), and the 408 (East-West Expressway). As SunPass, Florida's official electronic toll system, explains, many of these roads are now fully cashless. Your hire car supplier will offer a toll transponder at collection. This device charges your tolls and saves you from stopping at cash booths. The daily fee is modest. As Florida's Turnpike makes clear, not paying a toll is a moving violation under Florida law. On top of that, the admin fees rental firms charge for missed tolls are far higher than the transponder's daily cost.

Understanding Toll Fees for Your Orlando Hire

When you drive through a cashless toll, the vehicle's transponder records your passage. You are not charged a flat fee for the whole trip; instead, you are charged a "Convenience Fee" only on the days you actually use a toll road.

How These Charges Work

  • Convenience Fee: You are charged $4.95 only on the days you incur a toll. If you drive a day without using a toll road, you are not charged the convenience fee for that day.

  • Maximum Cap: You will not pay more than $34.65 in convenience fees for the entire duration of your rental, regardless of how many days you use the toll roads.

  • Toll Costs: In addition to the convenience fees listed above, you will be charged for the actual cost of the tolls incurred at the toll operator's rate.

  • Billing: These charges are typically billed to the credit card on file for your rental agreement, usually appearing on your statement a few weeks after your hire concludes.

Pro-Tip: If you are staying on International Drive for a shorter holiday and only visit one or two attractions, check if you can avoid toll roads entirely by using local routes (such as Apopka Vineland Road or Turkey Lake Road). However, for longer stays or trips to the coast, the convenience of the transponder is generally worth the fee to avoid the stress of manual payment systems.

What You Must Check

Check your insurance before you travel. Most car hire deals booked through a search or broker site include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) in the price. Always read the terms to confirm what is covered and whether any excess applies.

Watch the desk's Saturday closing time. The car rental desk closes at 14:00 on Saturdays and does not open on Sundays. If your holiday starts over a weekend, collect on Friday or Saturday morning, or wait until Monday.

Every hire car in Florida is automatic: that is good news. Almost all hire vehicles in Florida have automatic gears. UK drivers with an automatic-only licence (code 78) will have no issues at all. And if you simply prefer an automatic, Florida is the perfect place to drive.

Why is the Rosen Centre Is a Smart Orlando Car Hire Pick-Up Point?

For UK visitors staying on or near International Drive, this collection point has clear benefits over picking up at the airport.

You skip Orlando Airport entirely. Orlando International Airport is one of the busiest car rental sites in the world, especially during UK school holidays. Picking up your International Drive car hire from the Rosen Centre means no long queues, no shuttle buses to off-site depots, and no crowds of other travellers doing the same thing.

You are already where you want to be. SeaWorld Orlando is two miles away. Universal is under ten minutes by car. Walt Disney World is a fifteen-minute drive south. The Rosen Centre sits right in the middle of I-Drive. You head straight into Orlando's main tourist area the moment you get your keys.

No outdoor hassle. The car hire desk is inside the hotel. You do your paperwork in air-conditioned comfort, then walk to your vehicle. No open-air car parks. No luggage in the Florida sun.

Three major suppliers, one location. Alamo, National, and Enterprise all operate from the same desk. That means real price and vehicle choice for you when comparing deals.
